INT 400 Contract Instructions:

  1. Student creates learning objectives:  Develop 5 learning objectives for your internship experience. Please read the How to Write a Learnign Objective document found in your Canvas course prior to developing. 
  2. Student shares learning objectives with supervisor: Email or set up a meeting to gain feedback or approval from your supervisor.
  3. Student submits internship contract: Submit, and sign electronically after you complete the Learning Objectives section. Then, select the “Save and Return Later” option at the bottom of the form after your signature, unless you are completing the form at the same time with your supervisor present. You will get a link to share via email with your supervisor for his/her completion. 
  4. Supervisor signs the contract electronically: The supervisor uses the link from the student to review the Internship Contract, make changes as needed, and complete the electronic signature on the last page, and press “submit” when you are finished. You and your intern will get an email with the submitted information once the contract is approved by the faculty member.
  5. Student makes sure they are registered for the appropriate INT course. 

Please NOTE: Contracts must be approved by Vandiver Center for Career Development before the intern can begin work. The Internship Contract serves as a written agreement between all parties involved and is not valid until approved.


Five Learning Objective Areas

  1. Career Exploration: Identify a specific experience or interaction that will help the student assess the alignment of their career interests and industry experience
  2. Global Mindedness/Global and Intercultural Fluency: Identify an area in which the student would gain specific skills, knowledge, or attitudes around intercultural competence, humility, and communication in an increasingly connected and diverse world
  3. Professionalism / Emotional Intelligence: Identify a skill or learned knowledge around personal accountability and effective work habits e.g., punctuality, working productively with others, non-verbal communication, and time workload management or related to emotional intelligence e.g., empathy, active listening, and resilience.
  4. Cross-functional Skill Development: Identify a specific skill or learned knowledge around the career competencies employers seek. These include critical thinking/problem solving, oral/written communication, teamwork/collaboration, leadership, and agile thinking.
  5. Professional Adeptness/Career Management: Identify an area in which the student would gain specific skills, knowledge, or attitudes associated with their field of study.

Learning Objectives

A Learning Objective is a statement that describes what a student should be able to do by the end of this internship. When creating learning objectives it is helpful to consider a project or initiative that will be the marquee of the internship experience. 

Please write five learning objectives from the below five areas.  Only contracts with thoughtful Learning Objectives and detailed action plans will be approved.
