If you didn’t attend the Digital Summit in Dallas this year, you missed out on a ton of great insights, networking, and fruitful conversations.
In particular, the keynotes were packed with actionable nuggets of information and inspiration to take back with you to the office.
Although nothing could match the experience of being at the Irving Convention Center for the event, I’d like share a few of the lessons that impacted me the most.
Keynote Speaker #1: Jason Miller
Jason Miller gave the first keynote of the event. Jason is a senior manager of content marketing for LinkedIn Marketing Solutions and author of the book “Welcome to the Funnel.” Having previously managed content for Marketo and now LinkedIn, Jason has a ton of experience with launching successful social and content marketing campaigns. His keynote focused on lessons he wanted to share within these spaces. Here some of my favorite takeaways:
“You don’t need more content. You need more RELEVANT content.” – @JasonMillerCA [TWEET THIS]
“Useful x Enjoyable x Inspired = Innovative Content.” – @JasonMillerCA [TWEET THIS]
“Don’t hate the media. Become the media.” – @JasonMillerCA [TWEET THIS]
“Always be testing.” – @JasonMillerCA [TWEET THIS]
“Customers need brands that want to lead the conversation; they need a reason to follow you.” – @JasonMillerCA [TWEET THIS]
Keynote Speaker #2: Mark Cuban
The next keynote speaker was Mark Cuban, who I’m sure needs no introduction. But if, by some chance, you’re unfamiliar with Mark, he’s a co-star on the show Shark Tank and owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Mark is also a well-known venture capitalist who has invested in a number of startups and businesses. At the summit, Mark spoke briefly about how he’s been able to foster engaging experiences both online and offline. Below are my favorite quotes of the summit from Mark.
[on creating content for SEO ranking] “Step away from the algorithm.” – @mcuban [TWEET THIS]
“Digital is critical, but digital that’s experiential is the future of digital marketing.” – @mcuban [TWEET THIS]
“What makes you unique?” – @mcuban [TWEET THIS]
[When asked how to think of innovative ideas] “Sometimes you just have to pay attention to the obvious.” – @mcuban [TWEET THIS]
“Truly disruptive ideas get pulled rather than pushed on people.” – @mcuban [TWEET THIS]
[When asked about staying ahead of the competition] “Think to yourself, ‘How would I kick my own ass?’” – @mcuban [TWEET THIS]
Keynote Speaker #3: Chris Brogan
Chris Brogan gave the third keynote. Chris is CEO of Owner Media group and is a New York Times best-selling author. He has authored eight books, including his latest “A Framework for Embracing Community, Driving the Economy and Building the Future.” Chris focused his keynote on using content and community to reach audiences.
“You don’t need to reach everybody; you need to reach the 1000 people who matter to you.“ – @chrisbrogan [TWEET THIS]
“You don’t have to believe me. You just have to try it, and if it works, do more of it.” – @chrisbrogan [TWEET THIS]
“Business is about belonging. Why should we buy from you?” – @chrisbrogan [TWEET THIS]
There were many more great talks and lessons to take away from the summit, but these stood out to me most. I’m sure next year’s event will be every bit as inspiring and insightful. I hope I see you there!
