I know, I know. I’m sure right now the last word you want to hear is “tax.” However, with the tax season just around the corner, I thought now would be an appropriate time to shed some light on how to charge a tax on products sold using your Formstack forms.

One of the most popular uses for online forms is to sell products over the Internet. Using one of our payment integrations, you can build a form that allows you to collect payments for anything, from event tickets to company t-shirts to your antique autographed baseball. Formstack offers many features that simplify selling items online. One of these features gives our customers the ability to charge a sales tax. We have developed the ability to charge a tax based on the state or province in which the customer lives.  This applies to every country in the world!

To add the tax rules to your form:

1. Go to the Settings tab of your form and click on Plugins.

2.Click on the Add button that is located next to the Tax Rules option.  The Tax Rules option is located in the Order Form section of the page.

3. Map the address, subtotal, and tax fields to the fields on the form.  The setup page for the tax rules will give you the option to add as many tax rules to the form as you need.

4. Select the country, state, and the tax rate that you would like to charge each state.  Make sure to check with your state department of revenue to find out the tax rules for the state in which you reside.

5. Click Save Settings when your tax rules are set up to your liking.

Hopefully this helps you create a professional form to help you sell your gear. Also, let us know in the comments below if you have any more questions about adding tax rules!
