I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the iPhone has not only changed the way we live, but also the way we do business. Today, you have the opportunity to choose from over 300,000 third-party apps at the App Store (as of December 2010).

The iPhone is the best way to not only keep track of your customers, but also your finances and projects for your small business while on-the-go. Whether your business is still just an idea or is starting to take off, many apps can be helpful resources for entrepreneurs.

Check out our picks for the top five iPhone apps for small-business owners:

1.)  Dropbox – FREE

Dropbox allows you to sync your files online and on your iPhone automatically. You can sync files of any size on any Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. It also offers file sharing, online backup, and web access straight from your iPhone.

2.)  QuickOffice Connect Mobile Suite – $9.99

QuickOffice Mobile Office Suite essentially offers mobile devices the same functionality that Microsoft Office programs provide on a personal computer. QuickOffice not only lets you view, edit, and create Microsoft Office documents that are stored on your iPhone, but also those on GoogleDocs, MobileMe, or Dropbox.

3.)  Scanner Pro – $6.99

You could simply take a picture of a document with your phone, but it just wouldn’t be as good. Scanner Pro uses the iPhone camera to take a digital photograph of your document, and then takes it to the next level. The portable scanner allows users to crop images, fix perspective, improve readability, and share scans by e-mail.

4.)  Square – FREE

Small business owners can now process credit card and cash payments on the spot with Square. After registering online, users receive a small hardware device that plugs into an iPhone and can read credit cards, eliminating the need for swiping machines.

5.)  Expensify – FREE

Expensify does all of the work behind an expense report so you don’t have to (and we like their slogan “Expense Reports that Don’t Suck”). Use the app to log mileage or any cash expenses and take photos of receipts with the iPhone camera. Also, link your credit card or bank account to follow your spending.

With all of your spending in one spot, you can create and submit an expense report for approval right from your iPhone. You can even be reimbursed directly to a checking account — all online (We love technology!)

There are hundreds of other iPhone apps out there to suit your small business needs, but we wanted to share some of our favorites with you. Our free iPhone app allows you to create web forms on-the-go and view them on any mobile device, not just the iPhone.

Enjoy your shopping in the App Store and we hope that you find apps that will make your day-to-day operations a bit easier and more productive!
