Thank you for your interest in a Student Activities Board leadership position. The position term will be May 2020 to May 2021.


About SAB

The Student Activities Board (SAB) is the campus programming board at Seton Hall University. SAB provides social, recreational, cultural, and educational programs and events for the Seton Hall community. SAB plans and coordinates events including movies, concerts, comedy shows, lectures, campus life/novelty programs, carnivals, coffee house, and travel trips. There are a total of four (4) event planning committees (Campus Life, Cinema, Coffee House, and Live Events) and two (2) marketing & media committees (Multimedia Productions and Graphic Design). Each chair of the event planning committees brainstorm ideas, work with vendors and agents to negotiate contracts, and coordinate the event day of with the help of other chairs and the Street Team. Each chair of the marketing committees work on specialized tasks/projects before, during, and after the event such as content creation and specialized event support.


Responsibilities and Expectations for SAB Leadership

  • Attend weekly (1) hour Leadership and (1) hour Street Team meetings (Mondays from 7pm - 9pm)
  • Hold two (2) office hours per week
  • Oversee a committee of Street Team Members
  • Support the events of other committees by attending weekly events
  • Assist and attend "all hands on deck" events (such as but not limited to Blue Day, Spring Fling Carnival, Concerts, and other large-scale events)
  • Attend mandatory training, planning days, and retreats that take place in April, August, and January
  • Important Dates: Spring Retreat (4/3 - 4/5), August Training (8/15 move-in, training dates TBA), January Retreat (TBA)

Eligibility for SAB Leadership

  • Any full-time undergraduate student at Seton Hall University during the Fall 2020 - Spring 2021 semester may apply
  • Applicants must be in good academic and judicial standing


Timeline for SAB Leadership Applicants 

  • The application deadline is Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 11:59p.m.
  • The Selection Committee (made up of the Director for Student Activities and Assistant Director for Student Activities) will review your application. If your application makes it through the first round, you will be invited to interview for a position. Please note, not all applicants are invited to interview. Interviews will take place Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22.
  • On Monday, February 17, 2020 we invite you to join us at 8pm in the Faculty Lounge for a Group Process brainstorm. The Group Process is not mandatory.

  • Negotiate cost and availability of activities with agents and vendors
  • Create an ambiance that fits the theme of the event through decorations, creative marketing, promotional items and support from the Media Productions Chairs

  • Create and disseminate posters and work with Director of Marketing on social media campaigns
  • Oversee a committee of Street Team members that assist with marketing and event planning
  • Major events include: Blue Day, Final Free Zone, and the Spring Fling Carnival
  • Past events include: Diners Drive-ins & Dorms, Latenighters, First-Day Butterflies, Big Prize Bingo, Pinterest Parties, Casino Night, and more


Coffeehouse Chair

Coordinates, manages, and promotes a weekly music series in the Pirate's Cove on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m.

  • Brainstorm and research college music agencies and local talent to bring to campus
  • Negotiate directly with agents and vendors
  • Advance event details with agent, vendors, and Multimedia and Productions committee
  • Oversee all day of tasks (event set-up, manage event shifts, meet with performer/providing hospitality)
  • Create and disseminate posters and work with Director of Marketing on social media campaigns
  • Major events include: Open Mic Night, Student Soloist Night, and Game Night
  • Past performers include: Jeff LeBlanc, Wakey Wakey (from One Tree Hill), Ryan Cabrera, Nelly's Echo, Lauren Marsh, and Quincy Mumford and the Reason Why


Live Events Chair

Coordinates, manages, and promotes large scale productions including concerts, comedy shows and lectures

  • Brainstorm and vet musical acts, comedians, and speakers to bring to campus
  • Complete thorough and well-researched vet proposals for all performers
  • Develop comprehensive marketing plans that are sent to agents' of performers
  • Create and disseminate posters and work with Director of Marketing on social media campaigns
  • Oversee all day of tasks (event setup, manage event shifts, meet with performer/set up hospitality)
  • Oversee a committee of Street Team members that assist with marketing and event planning
  • Major events include: SHU Speaks lecture, comedy shows, concerts, Music Under the Stars, Live Vibes
  • Past performers include: Kyle & Jesse McCartney, Laurie Hernandez, GrooveBoston, Brandon Stanton (HONY), Colin Jost, W. Kamau Bell, etc.


Weekend Programs Chair

Coordinates, manages, and promotes a monthly weekend program series taking place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the semester *This is a brand new committee absorbing the Cinema Committee and focusing weekend events*

  • Brainstorm and research novelty events and activities to host on campus during the weekends such as free movie screenings, variety acts, interactive experiences, inflatables, crafts, fun foods, and more
  • Plan one (1) off-campus travel trip to take place each month of the academic year
  • Negotiate cost and availability of activities with agents and vendors
  • Work directly with a film licensing company to obtain the rights to show cinematic features; Select films that meet the interests of students and follow the University's Catholic mission
  • Create an ambiance that fits the theme of the event through decorations, creative marketing, promotional items and support from the Media Productions Chairs
  • Oversee all day of tasks (event set-up, manage event shifts, meet with vendors/performers)
  • Create and disseminate posters and work with Director of Marketing on social media campaigns
  • Oversee a committee of Street Team members that assist with marketing and event planning
  • Past weekend events include: Cards Against Hypnosis, Dave & Busters Travel Trip, Let Me Teach SHU Workshops, NYC Themed Latenighter


Multimedia Productions Chair

Oversees all multimedia, audio/visual, and photography for events

  • Responsible for setup, operating live sound during performances, and breakdown during Coffee House events (Wednesdays at 8:30p.m. in Pirate's Cove)
  • Work with event planning committees to provide multimedia aesthetics to events such as up-lighting, use of projectors, Go Pro camera and DSLR camera
  • Oversee a committee of Street Team members that assist with media production tasks
  • While this chair is not responsible for planning events, the Multimedia Productions Chair is always welcome (but not required) to propose and plan events
  • Past projects include: Open Mic Nights (live sound & lighting), Ryan Cabrera (live sound & live recording), Levy & the Oaks (live sound), Lip Sync Battle (live sound & lighting)


Graphic Design & Marketing Chair

Creates print and digital web graphics and assists with social media coverage at events

  • Creates and produces social media content such as tweets, social media squares, Facebook headers, Snapchat filters, and other graphic related materials
  • Assists event planning committees with designing event posters and t-shirts
  • Oversee a committee of Street Team members that assist with social media coverage throughout the event
  • While this chair is not responsible for planning events, the Graphic Design & Marketing Chair is always welcome (but not required) to propose and plan events
  • Past projects include: Special event posters (e.g. Diners Drive-ins & Dorms marketing), Spring Fling t-shirt design, Lip Sync Battle poster, social media travel trip contests

Historian Chair

Keeps a record of the organization's accomplishments and activities throughout the year, and maintains communications with Student Activities Board alumni members

  • Maintains the historical records for Student Activities Board, such as but not limited to yearly Leadership membership, Street Team membership, event listings, etc.
  • Collects historical archives such as but not limited to photographs, newspapers, videos, memorabilia, posters, etc.
  • Maintains communications with Seton Hall alumni who were involved in the Student Activities Board
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Member Relations to bring back alumni members for SAB Leadership and Street Team Meetings
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Operations in maintaining SAB databases and document sharing programs
  • Creates and organizes a scrapbook showcasing the year of events
  • Responsible for writing news story features about Student Activities Board events, initiatives, and accomplishments for the Seton Hall University website
